Coronavirus (COVID-19): Update From Passmate

As the Coronavirus pandemic continues to spread and cause more disruption, here at Passmate we are monitoring the government’s advice and planning ourselves accordingly to this fluid situation. Our main priority, of course, is to keep everyone safe, as well as maintain a clear and concise message about what we plan to do amid all of this. We want to give everyone peace of mind, be it our instructors, our learners, or the friends and family of those learning to drive with Passmate.

Understandably, there will be question marks surrounding the runnings of our service. So within this blog, we aim to shed some light on what we’re doing, our next steps, and advise those in need of it.

Driving Tests and Theory

The  DVSA has postponed all theory and practical driving tests. All test centers are currently closed, and all theory tests up to Monday, 20th March have been postponed. It seems as if tests can be booked after this date, although we imagine there’s no guarantee that it will go ahead. We will update everyone as and when more news comes in on the matter.

Key Workers

Tests are still available for critical workers. Subsequently, if you are a critical worker that is in need of driving lessons, please get in touch via email or our live chat and we will facilitate everything for you as quickly as we can, around your schedule, and at a discounted price.

Are Driving Lessons Still Taking Place?

Driving lessons are still taking place, yes. Although at this moment in time, it will only be key workers that have tests booked who can take lessons. We are really sorry about any inconvenience this may have caused, but I hope you can understand that this is entirely necessary.

Those of our instructors that feel like they need to self-isolate have done, and those that are not comfortable teaching are not doing so. Each instructor has made their own decision to either teach or not to teach.

Is It Safe to Take My Driving Lessons?

Those of our instructors that feel like they need to self-isolate have done, and those that are not comfortable teaching are not doing so. Each instructor has made their own decision to either teach or not to teach during this period.

We have made sure that all of our instructors that are still out working for the key workers are not putting anyone at risk i.e they have never shown any symptoms of COVID-19, nor taught anyone with any symptoms in the past 2 weeks. We appreciate that this is a very delicate matter, so if you don’t feel comfortable getting in the car with a driving instructor, don’t feel obliged to. But please do contact us to see whether we can put your mind at ease or if there is anything we can help you with.

Before each and every lesson, we have told our instructors to check that A) They are not showing any symptoms/feeling under the weather B) The student isn’t showing any symptoms/ feeling under the weather and C) The student is happy to get in the car and go ahead with the lesson.

We have asked all instructors to carry hand sanitizer with them, as well as disinfectant wipes.

We can’t stop people from wanting to take their lessons, and we will do everything in our power to assist key workers for their driving test. All we ask is that all parties are considerate and truthful – something we have made abundantly clear to our instructors.

Contactless Payment:

We need to stress the importance of doing cashless payments through Passmate. This is entirely necessary to prevent the spread of the virus

I have Lessons Remaining But I don’t Want to Drive At This Moment in Time – What Do I do?

We are adopting a flexible rescheduling program to make this as easy as possible for our learners once this pandemic has passed. Please contact us at hello@passmate.co.uk so we can keep on top of all the diary changes.

Passmate will hold onto your money for you and you will have your lessons credit for when you wish to commence with your lessons.

Alternatives To Taking Lessons Now

It is important to keep your driving skills sharp during this period. If you’re not a key worker, you’ll be practicing social distancing, why not go out in your family car and practice in the comfort of your own space. It is important that you keep brushed up on your driving during this period so that you don’t forget the skills that you have learned. By doing this, once the test centers reopen, you will be test ready! This is a time saver and something productive you can do with your time!

If you are in need of insurance to drive your family car, head to MyFirstUK and use the code PASSMATE100 on their website to get £100 off your insurance. Any questions you may have regarding our insurance scheme, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us via email or on our live chat.

If you have a test booked for a few months time, but do not have the means to practice driving away from your instructor, email us at hello@passmate.co.uk, or message us on our live chat on our website. We can arrange an intensive course for you before your test. This is the perfect way to hone in on your skills and properly prepare you in a short space of time.
